Congruence & Credibility

Posted in Humor~General at 6:28 pm by Dr. Trina Hess

There’s nothing more painful than watching or listening to someone trying to be someone they’re not.  We’re not all Chris Rock.  We’re not all Steven Wright.  We all have our own style of humor.  It’s the style that matches our personality.

Something reminded me of this tonight. I was watching an interview of the father of the missing Florida girl.  A body language expert was analyzing the father’s speech and actions.  Because his words and movements weren’t congruent, he wasn’t credible.

The very best humor is where there is a congruence in the type of humor and the type of comedian.  Victor Borge wouldn’t be nearly as funny if he were wearing jeans.  Other comics wouldn’t be as funny in a tuxedo.  But when we draw our humor out of our own individual style and personality, we have a much better chance of being funny.

So, “Get Your SHINE Together!” and showcase your individuality!
